St Augustine – Home is where you are!

Home really is where you are, whether it is in the mountains, the big City, or a nice coastal town like St Augustine.  For me, it is the coastal town.  I like being just a few minutes from the ocean, the beach, and the scenic views that abound.  St Augustine is made up of several parts.  We have the beach area on Anastasia Island, the Old City downtown – historic St Augustine, and then we have the west part of St John’s County that lies along the St John’s River.

Our busy time is the summer, when tourists descend to take in the historical sites.  We have a fort, a real fort, not the made up kind, built by the Spanish, called Castillo San Marco, and has defended St Augustine for 330 years.  the fort is now a national monument.  We have a second fort, called Ft.  Mose, which was the first free African-American settlement in the New World.  The Spanish crown awarded freedom to any English slaves who made it to Florida and converted to Catholicism.

There is so much here to talk about, that I can’t begin to tell you everything in one post, so I guess I will have to wait for another time.  Did I mention we have lighthouse?  enjoy the video!
